A Quick South African Reunion At The Market.

Zinhle & Me - Sweet Auburn Market - 7/14/19

It was a quick hello at Sweet Auburn Market, just outside the security gate at departures in the International Terminal in Atlanta.  It has been quite a few years since I saw Zinhle Gaza - I think it was either in 2010 when she visited Post Falls, Idaho with Karen Pretorius or in 2012, when I had my last visit to South Africa.  Regardless, it was nice to see her and to hear about all the changes in Bhekulwandle and at Seed of Hope.

It is funny how things or places that mean so much to us are fixed in our brains -- and yet they are evolving hopefully just like we are.  I look forward to seeing the kids programs and the new programs at the middle schools that Musa is leading with the interns - and everything else that has changed in the last 7 years.

My nephew Isaiah accompanied me on my last trip and it looks like he might fly over and join me this time for my time in Durban and up to Marakesh as well and then back to San Francisco.

I have 6 weeks left before I leave Atlanta and make my way across the country back up to Idaho -- lots of changes in store, but I am excited for what I feel God is doing in my heart.

More later . . . .

3 Continents / 5 countries / 62 days

I am super excited to have the great privilege to be able to travel overseas again after a 5 year hiatus.  Traveling to other countries and being involved in relief and development work, HIV/AIDS Training and Advocacy, Sharing my personal story of faith, encouraging leaders -- wonderful.  As it turns out, I had been meeting weekly for prayer with some retired missionaries from India who live in Georgia for the past 5 months and that combined with some prompting from the Lord -- I stepped out in faith to reconnect with the relationships that had been established all the way back to 2003.

I will be leaving from San Francisco on Nov. 29th and stopping over in Shanghai, China for 24 hours and then head to Delhi, India.  After that it is on to Bhubenaswar in Orissa, then to Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bangalore and then flying south on Dec. 23rd to Bangkok, Thailand.  I will spend a week there and then it is off to Johannesburg, South Africa, then a week in Cape Town, South Africa -- then 10 days in Amanzmtoti/Bhekulwandle, South Africa -- up to Marakesh, Morocco and then back to San Francisco and then up to Spokane, Washington.

Some generous friends and supporters donated the funds and that combined with some amazing deals (purchasing one-way tickets before Memorial Day - I got an amazing deal) I am going to be able to reconnect a very significant part of my life back with the last few years.  I see a convergence taking place and watching God continue to show me who I am in Christ -- none of us are just one thing.  We can do many things perhaps, but it is all in service to the kingdom purposes for our lives.

I am hoping my nephew Isaiah is able to join me back at Seed of Hope in Bheukulwandle, SA and Marakesh, Morocco -- praying that works out.

In the meantime -- I will keep you posted of what is happening as we move towards this trip and all of the exciting details of the itinerary and programs that fall into place.

God bless
John

Back On Travel

So today is June 21, 2019 and it has been 5 years and 5 months since I returned from my last trip overseas.  On that particular trip, I started in India and was able to visit Sri Lanka, Thailand & South Africa.  It was the last trip I would take after having travelled at least 20 International trips in 11 years.  I probably was a little burned out and this break has actually been good for me.  Now that I am getting to go again, it feels exciting like it was the first time.

I am getting to head back over to India first where I will be visiting friends in Delhi, Bhubenaswar, Mumbai, Thane, Pune, Hyderabad and Bangalore.  After, I will head towards Thailand where I will be able to spend about a week in Bangkok and Cheng May.  Then it will be off to South Africa where I will spend time in Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban, Amanzmtoti & Bhekulwandle before I head up to Marakesh, Morocco and then back to San Francisco and up north to Idaho.

There will be much to share and I look forward to showing pics of friends past and new ones and places that I think might be interesting.

In the meantime, today I received my visa for India and it is a multiple-entry visa for 10 years.  So looks like I will be able to go a few more times in the future, Lord willing!

Peace
John
