A Home in Idaho and in the Heart of God

Ok -- the Lord woke me up this morning at 3:55 am -- pretty wide awake -- kind of surprising considering yesterday morning when the alarm clock went off at 6:00 am, because I had to drive for the place I am volunteering here in Post Falls. I drive some friends who are homeless right now and who are participating in Project Family Idaho -- to their destinations. Anyway -- the morning came fast and hard that day - but today -- there was a quick opening of my eyes and an expectation of something -- only God knows. I went to a prayer meeting last night at the church I have been attending - -New Life Community Church - they meet for an hour -- no list -- just seek God's presence -- seek His heart -- and then wait there -- a true exercise in pursuing the heart of God -- how great to Have a Pastor that sees that as a worthwhile adventure!

So this morning -- I am thinking -- about Haiti -- I booked a ticket with miles, by faith, -- to leave on March 15th and return on March 23rd -- where I will stay, what I will be doing- don't know -- don't know if the airport will even be open for commercial flights by then -- but I booked the ticket this morning -- we shall see what God does. The dates come during what will be Spring Break from the University I have started attending. Perhaps I can incorporate what happens on that trip into my studies somehow -- we shall see.

Ok -- so this morning I was reading Luke 11:2-4 The Lord's prayer and then went on to read from vs. 5-11 wherein Jesus goes on to talk about a friend going to another friend in the middle of the night because of a pressing need. Something out of the ordinary -- Jesus talks about "He will not get up and give him the bread because He is his friend, but because of His boldness" vs. 8 -- I was struck here at Jesus, who knows the Father so intimately is saying, that the father is our Friend and we can boldly approach him with our requests -- because He loves us! Jesus goes on to say in vs. 11 about "which of you fathers, if your son asks for a fish, will give him a snake instead?" He was pointing out the fact that the love that the father has for his children is deep -- and even if we, as an earthly father can see that we would love our children, how much more would our heavenly father do for his children. Jesus was really trying to get the disciples to realize that their father in heaven really loves them.

I heard some of the Lord's heart in that this morning -- Jesus had such a strong desire for his disciples to Know this foundational truth -- that they have a Father in Heaven who cares deeply for them and they are loved!

So this morning, at what is now 5:32 am -- I am at rest in my new home in Idaho and in a deeper understanding of the heart of my Father in Heaven -- I pray you would know the same!

Jesus’ Teaching on Prayer

1 One day Jesus was praying in a certain place. When he finished, one of his disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples.”

2 He said to them, “When you pray, say:

“‘Father,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come.

3 Give us each day our daily bread.

4 Forgive us our sins,
for we also forgive everyone who sins against us.c
And lead us not into temptation.d’”

5 Then he said to them, “Suppose one of you has a friend, and he goes to him at midnight and says, ‘Friend, lend me three loaves of bread, 6 because a friend of mine on a journey has come to me, and I have nothing to set before him.’

7 “Then the one inside answers, ‘Don’t bother me. The door is already locked, and my children are with me in bed. I can’t get up and give you anything.’ 8 I tell you, though he will not get up and give him the bread because he is his friend, yet because of the man’s boldnesse he will get up and give him as much as he needs.

9 “So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. 10For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.

11 “Which of you fathers, if your son asks for a fish, will give him a snake instead? 12 Or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? 13 If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!”
